GTA 6 Online will not arrive alongside Grand Theft Auto VI when Rockstar releases the highly anticipated game this November. Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that GTA VI will launch as a single-player title, while the existing GTA Online service will continue after the new game arrives.
Take-Two made the comments during its annual shareholder meeting on September 17. The company did not reveal a launch date for a new multiplayer experience. However, its statement gives players a clearer idea of Rockstar’s immediate priorities.
Take-Two said GTA 6 is a single-player title due for release in November. The company also said it would continue supporting GTA Online after GTA VI launches and beyond.
That means players should not expect a new online mode at launch. At the same time, Rockstar has not explained when a successor to the current GTA Online will arrive.
GTA VI launches on November 19
Rockstar has officially set November 19, 2026, as the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The studio describes the game as a single-player experience centered on Jason and Lucia in the fictional state of Leonida.
The publisher has also begun taking pre-orders. Take-Two has described demand for GTA VI as unprecedented and expects the release to provide a major boost to its business.
For now, Rockstar appears focused on getting the main game ready for launch. The company has not officially shown a full GTA VI multiplayer reveal.
Existing GTA Online remains important
Rockstar also has little reason to abandon the current GTA Online experience immediately. Take-Two has repeatedly highlighted the strength of its recurrent consumer spending business.
In its latest quarterly results, the company said net bookings from recurrent consumer spending accounted for 73% of total net bookings in the quarter. Grand Theft Auto Online also remained among the major contributors to Take-Two’s bookings.
The existing online game therefore remains an important part of the company’s business. Supporting it after GTA VI launches could also give Rockstar more time to develop the next multiplayer experience.
No release date for GTA 6 Online yet
Despite growing speculation, Take-Two has not announced when GTA 6 Online will launch. Some reports and industry figures have suggested that multiplayer could arrive in 2027, but those claims do not represent an official Rockstar release date.
There has also been speculation about possible multiplayer features and player counts. However, Rockstar has yet to confirm those details publicly.
For now, the message from Take-Two is straightforward. GTA VI will launch as a single-player game on November 19, while GTA Online will continue receiving support after its release.
Players will have to wait for Rockstar to reveal when and how the next generation of GTA multiplayer will begin.
