Iran Envoy Criticizes US Over Nuclear Deal and MoU

Iran envoy criticism as Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam speaks about US policy and diplomatic agreements

Iran envoy criticism has intensified after Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, accused US President Donald Trump of weakening major diplomatic agreements involving Tehran.

In a post on X, Moghadam argued that Washington’s actions contradicted its calls for peace and dialogue. He said the United States had undermined agreements that took years of negotiations to achieve, reducing confidence in diplomatic solutions.

Iran Envoy Criticism Focuses on JCPOA

Moghadam said the United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) 473 days after Trump entered the White House during his first term.

Iran and six world powers signed the 2015 nuclear agreement to restrict Tehran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief.

The ambassador argued that Washington’s withdrawal damaged years of diplomatic work and weakened international confidence in agreements reached through negotiations.

He warned that abandoning international commitments can make future diplomatic efforts more difficult.

Ambassador Raises Questions Over Islamabad MoU

The Iran envoy criticism also focused on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Moghadam claimed that the United States interpreted the agreement differently from its original purpose. According to the ambassador, that interpretation weakened the deal less than three weeks after the parties signed it.

He argued that such developments could increase regional tensions rather than create opportunities for peaceful negotiations.

Iran Calls for Respect for International Agreements

Moghadam stressed that lasting peace requires governments to respect international commitments.

He said countries should honour agreements even when political leadership changes. He also urged governments to resolve disputes through negotiation rather than confrontation.

According to the ambassador, maintaining trust between countries remains essential for preventing future conflicts and building sustainable diplomatic relationships.

Tehran-Washington Relations Remain Tense

The latest Iran envoy criticism comes as relations between Tehran and Washington remain strained over nuclear issues, regional security and broader foreign-policy disputes.

Both sides continue to exchange criticism, while international and regional actors encourage renewed diplomatic engagement.

Rebuilding trust could prove difficult, particularly when previous agreements remain a source of disagreement. However, continued dialogue could help reduce tensions and create opportunities for future negotiations.

For now, the dispute highlights the broader challenge facing diplomacy in the region: lasting agreements require not only negotiations but also confidence that all sides will honour their commitments.
