Iran has accused the United States of violating a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), alleging that Washington resumed military operations in breach of the agreement.
Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, made the accusation in a statement shared on social media. He said the United States had acted against the agreement’s terms as well as international law.
Iran Says US Misinterpreted the Agreement
According to Moghadam, Washington interpreted the memorandum “contrary to its terms” and used that interpretation to expand military activity in parts of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian envoy alleged that the United States was attempting to achieve through military action what it had failed to accomplish through other means.
Moghadam rejected what he called an arbitrary interpretation of the agreement. He argued that Washington’s actions violated commitments made under the memorandum.
Ambassador Claims Military Operations Breached MoU
The Iranian ambassador said the latest US military operations represented a direct violation of the memorandum signed by the two sides last month.
He accused Washington of carrying out attacks that damaged infrastructure while disregarding the principles established under the agreement.
Moghadam also argued that the renewed military campaign violated internationally recognised legal principles governing armed conflict.
The allegations could further complicate diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions across the Middle East. Continued military incidents could also increase concerns about broader regional instability.
Iran Calls for International Condemnation
Iran has called on the international community to respond to the alleged violation.
Moghadam urged governments and international organisations to condemn what he described as an “aggressive and reckless” action by the United States.
His comments came amid heightened tensions around the Gulf, where military activity has raised concerns about a wider regional confrontation.
The claims have not been independently verified. US officials and independent international observers had not immediately responded to the ambassador’s allegations.
