Stolen Phone App Created by Bihar Man
A 65-year-old man from Patna, Bihar, has developed a mobile app designed to help people track lost or stolen phones.
Ravi Nandan Sahay does not have a computer science degree.
Instead, he holds postgraduate qualifications in statistics and taught himself cloud application development before creating the anti-theft app called “Get Your Lost Phone.”
Sahay spent several months learning the technology needed to turn his idea into a working application.
The app aims to provide phone owners and police with digital clues that could help locate a missing device and identify someone attempting to access it.
How the App Tracks a Lost Phone
The application works in the background after users activate its security features.
If someone enters an incorrect passcode while attempting to unlock the phone, the app can use the front camera to capture an image.
The application can then send an alert containing the captured image and the phone’s GPS location.
Users can reportedly add two emergency contact numbers and a primary email address.
When an unauthorized unlock attempt occurs, the system sends the available information to those contacts.
The developer says the app can help provide clues about who may have taken or accessed a phone.
Cloud Technology Powers the App
Sahay initially experimented with different AI-based approaches while developing the application.
Those attempts did not produce the results he wanted.
He eventually turned to a cloud-based system and managed to build a functioning version of the app.
The development process took several months.
Sahay said he learned much of the required technology through online resources, including YouTube tutorials.
His experience shows how people without formal computer science training can use online learning resources to develop technology products.
Why Sahay Built the App
The idea came from his concern about phone theft.
Sahay has two children who work as professional software developers.
He said he had repeatedly asked them to create an application that could help protect people from phone theft.
However, their professional commitments left little time for the project.
Sahay eventually decided to learn the skills himself.
He said the process took around three to four months before he achieved a successful result.
Who Created Get Your Lost Phone?
Sahay is from Patna, Bihar.
He earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics from B.N. College and later completed an M.Sc. in Statistics from Patna University.
Despite having no computer science degree, he used his background in mathematics and statistics alongside self-taught technology skills to develop the application.
The app is currently available through the Google Play Store.
App Costs Less Than Similar Services
Sahay has also priced the application below some competing services.
He charges around ₹500 for an annual subscription.
Some similar applications can cost users around ₹2,000 per year.
The developer hopes the lower price will make the tool accessible to more smartphone users.
As phone theft and unauthorized access remain concerns for mobile users, Sahay’s project highlights how self-taught developers can create practical solutions outside traditional technology careers.
