Türkiye has urged the United States and Iran to return to the negotiating table, saying diplomacy remains the most realistic way to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking to Qatar TV during a visit to Doha, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Türkiye is working closely with Qatar to support efforts to revive dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
Türkiye Supports Qatar’s Diplomatic Efforts
Fidan praised Qatar for maintaining communication with various parties despite growing regional tensions.
He said Doha continues to play an important role in reducing tensions and creating opportunities for meaningful negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Fidan also expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts would produce positive results and help prevent further escalation.
Türkiye Calls for Revival of Previous Agreement
Fidan called on Washington and Tehran to revive their previous memorandum of understanding as a possible foundation for renewed negotiations.
He said Pakistan, Qatar and Türkiye had contributed to diplomatic efforts surrounding the agreement and argued that returning to the framework could provide a starting point for rebuilding dialogue.
According to Fidan, renewed negotiations could help restore stability and reduce the risk of a broader regional confrontation.
Regional Stability Depends on Dialogue
Fidan warned that continued confrontation between Washington and Tehran is creating serious economic and security challenges across the Middle East.
He pointed to concerns over attacks on critical infrastructure and the possibility of further escalation, which could increase uncertainty for governments, businesses and communities across the region.
The Turkish foreign minister stressed that diplomatic engagement is more effective than military escalation when it comes to protecting regional peace and stability.
Türkiye and Qatar Strengthen Strategic Partnership
During his visit, Fidan described relations between Türkiye and Qatar as a strategic partnership based on mutual trust and long-term cooperation.
He praised Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his diplomatic leadership and Qatar’s continued efforts to promote dialogue.
Fidan also expressed condolences over the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, describing him as a visionary leader who had a lasting influence on the region.
Regional Cooperation Remains Essential
Fidan said Türkiye and Qatar continue cooperating on a range of regional issues, including Lebanon, Afghanistan, Sudan, Gaza and Iran.
He stressed that stronger regional cooperation is essential for achieving lasting peace and stability.
The Turkish minister also praised Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Oman for supporting regional development and encouraging greater cooperation.
As tensions between the United States and Iran remain high, Türkiye and Qatar are expected to continue diplomatic efforts aimed at keeping communication channels open and creating conditions for renewed negotiations.
