Google has officially entered the premium laptop market with its new Googlebook laptops, a five-model lineup starting at $899. The company is positioning the devices as more than traditional Chromebooks, with deeper Android integration and Gemini AI built into the operating system.
The first Googlebook models come from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. US preorders are now open, while retail availability begins on October 4. Prices range from $899 to $1,299, depending on the model.
Googlebook Laptops Bring Android Closer to the PC
Google designed the new platform around users who already rely on Android phones. When users sign in, Googlebook can bring over settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks and messages from their Android devices.
In addition, features such as Cast My Apps and Android’s Continue On tools are designed to make switching between a phone and laptop easier.
The desktop interface also takes visual cues from Google’s Pixel phones. Quick Settings and notifications sit in the upper-right corner, while the time and date appear on the left. A central dock provides access to applications.
Gemini AI Gets a Built-In Role
Google has also placed Gemini at the heart of the Googlebook experience.
A special pointer can summon Gemini through a quick wiggle gesture. Users can then ask the assistant to work with information on the screen or handle tasks such as adding dates to a calendar.
Furthermore, Googlebook includes tools designed to make AI assistance part of everyday desktop work rather than a separate application.
The platform also supports a native Antigravity development environment. Developers can access a full Linux environment and install tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex. A security-focused hypervisor with pKVM isolation helps keep the Linux environment separated from the main system.

The HP model offers the longest advertised battery life among the five launch systems and adds facial authentication alongside its fingerprint reader.
Google Targets the Premium Laptop Market
Googlebook marks a major shift from the budget-focused Chromebook market. Google is targeting users who want stronger hardware, built-in AI tools and closer connections between their phones and computers.
Meanwhile, the starting price of $899 places Googlebook well above many traditional Chromebooks. However, Google is also including premium hardware and additional software benefits with the new machines.
The company is effectively using Android integration and Gemini as key reasons for users to consider its new laptop platform.
As a result, the Googlebook launch gives Google a new position in a laptop market dominated by Windows PCs and Apple’s Mac lineup.
