Algerian Bus Crash Kills 27 After Vehicle Plunges Into Ravine Near Algiers
A devastating Algerian bus crash claimed the lives of at least 27 people on Friday after a passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a deep ravine near the capital, Algiers. The tragedy also left dozens of passengers injured, making it one of the country’s deadliest road accidents in recent years.
Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the crash, while government officials launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Bus Crashes Before Reaching Algiers
According to Algerian authorities, the bus was travelling from Setif to Algiers when it lost control in the El Karma area, roughly 50 kilometers from the capital.
The vehicle reportedly skidded off the highway before falling into a steep ravine. Rescue teams responded immediately, transporting survivors to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
Officials confirmed that 39 passengers sustained injuries, several of whom remain under medical observation.

Following the fatal accident, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared three days of national mourning across Algeria to honor the victims.
The president expressed condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and pledged that authorities would conduct a thorough investigation.
He also warned that anyone found responsible for negligence or traffic violations would face strict legal action after investigators determine the cause of the crash.
Investigation Underway
The Civil Protection agency stated that the bus left the roadway for reasons that have not yet been confirmed.
Investigators are examining road conditions, vehicle safety, driver actions, and other possible factors that may have contributed to the accident.
Authorities have not released additional details while the investigation continues.
