Greta Thunberg Ed Sheeran tensions have grown after the Swedish activist criticized the singer over Macklemore’s departure from his US tour.
Thunberg and activist group Humanti Project addressed the dispute in an Instagram post.
They criticized the decision after Macklemore made pro-Palestinian comments during a show in New Jersey. He shouted “Free Palestine!” and said Palestinians had not been forgotten.
Thunberg’s comments added to the growing debate around Macklemore’s removal.
Sheeran Says Promoters Made the Decision
Sheeran has denied responsibility for removing Macklemore from the tour.
The singer said the promoter made the final decision. He also said venue owners had warned that they would not allow shows with Macklemore in the lineup.
Sheeran said he spoke with venues and promoters during the dispute. He also tried to find a solution with activists on both sides.

Supporting Artists Leave the Tour
The controversy has also changed Sheeran’s remaining tour lineup.
Finneas announced his departure from the tour. Danish singer Lukas Graham and Irish singer-songwriter Aaron Rowe also quit.
Sheeran’s backing band Beoga also decided to leave.

Macklemore Continues to Support Palestinians
Macklemore has publicly supported Palestinians for years.
During his September 4 performance at MetLife Stadium, he spoke about the situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. He also performed “Hind’s Hall.”
The rapper released that song in 2024. The track expressed support for Palestinians and referenced the death of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl who died in Gaza.
Macklemore later said he wanted his performances to draw attention to Palestinian suffering.
Dispute Sparks Wider Debate
The controversy has now raised questions about political speech in the music industry.
Macklemore’s supporters say artists should have the freedom to speak about political and humanitarian issues. Meanwhile, Sheeran says he prefers to keep his concerts focused on music and bringing audiences together.
The two artists have therefore taken different approaches to the same conflict.
