US Space Force Chief Gen. Douglas Schiess said personnel operate on-orbit weapons designed to defend American forces against space-enabled attacks. Air Force Secretary Troy Meink made similar remarks the previous day.
However, neither official disclosed what types of weapons the United States has deployed or how many systems are currently in orbit.
The announcement comes as Washington, Beijing and Moscow continue to develop technologies that can disrupt, track or interfere with satellites.

Meink said the United States has space-control weapons capable of defending the Joint Force against hostile actions.

China and Russia Raise Concerns

Russia also criticized the US announcement. Its Foreign Ministry warned that deploying weapons in orbit could affect long-term stability and increase the risks associated with a conflict in space.
Washington, however, presents its space capabilities as part of a deterrence strategy.
