Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) will establish a Basic Life Support (BLS) training center in Larkana under a new partnership with Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU).
The two universities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand access to certified lifesaving training in Larkana and upper Sindh.
Officials signed the agreement at the DUHS Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat. DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nazli Hussain and SMBBMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nusrat Shah represented their institutions.
The new center will focus on essential emergency skills. These include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), chest compressions and rescue breathing.
Training will also cover ways to maintain an open airway during emergencies.
Larkana center will expand access to BLS training
The new facility aims to help healthcare workers gain certified lifesaving skills closer to home.
Doctors, nurses and paramedics will be able to attend the training in Larkana. Medical students and other healthcare workers can also benefit.
As a result, many professionals will no longer need to travel to other cities for standardized emergency training.
DUHS said the program could strengthen emergency responses across the region.
In particular, trained healthcare workers can respond faster when patients suffer cardiac or respiratory arrest.
That speed can prove critical during a medical emergency.
DUHS has trained thousands of healthcare workers
DUHS has provided internationally certified healthcare training since 2010.
According to the university, its programs have trained more than 25,000 healthcare professionals in lifesaving skills.
The Larkana center will add another training location to that network.
It will also bring certified medical education closer to communities across upper Sindh.
However, access to standardized emergency training remains limited in some parts of the province.
Therefore, officials expect the new center to help increase the number of trained healthcare workers in the region.
Partnership could expand training across Sindh
The agreement also creates opportunities for wider cooperation between the two universities.
Both institutions said the partnership would support professional development. They also highlighted the need for stronger access to lifesaving skills.
Furthermore, the initiative could provide a model for similar training centers in other parts of Sindh.
DUHS has already expanded medical training through centers and training locations in different parts of Pakistan.
The university now aims to make standardized healthcare education more accessible.
For Larkana and surrounding areas, the new BLS center could offer an important local resource.
It will give healthcare professionals practical emergency skills and certified training.
Ultimately, the partnership seeks to build a healthcare workforce that can respond more effectively when emergencies occur.
