Porsche Faces 4,000 More Job Cuts

Porsche job cuts could affect more than 4,000 workers under Volkswagen restructuring plan

Porsche could face more than 4,000 additional job cuts as parent company Volkswagen pushes ahead with a major restructuring plan.

German business newspaper Handelsblatt reported that the plan could affect about 4,100 employees at the sports car maker.

The reported cuts would address an overhead shortfall of around €700 million, according to documents cited by the newspaper.

However, the proposed Porsche job cuts would come on top of agreements already reached between the company and its workforce.

Existing Job Cuts Already Target Thousands

Porsche has already agreed to thousands of job reductions as it works to lower costs.

In July, Porsche management and labour representatives agreed to another 5,000 layoffs.

That figure followed an earlier agreement covering around 4,000 positions.

As a result, Porsche could eventually eliminate roughly one in five jobs by 2035 under the existing agreements.

The latest reported plan could increase that number further.

Volkswagen Cannot Directly Order Porsche Cuts

Volkswagen owns Porsche, but the parent company cannot simply impose every measure on the sports car brand.

Instead, Volkswagen can recommend restructuring steps to Porsche.

The company declined to comment on the Handelsblatt report.

A Porsche spokesperson also declined to comment on the reported plans.

Therefore, the additional 4,100 positions remain a reported proposal rather than a confirmed new agreement.

Volkswagen Lowers Profit Target

The latest Porsche job cuts report comes as Volkswagen faces growing financial pressure.

On Friday, Volkswagen lowered its full-year operating margin target.

The company now expects a margin of no more than 1%.

Previously, Volkswagen had forecast a margin between 4% and 5.5%.

The sharp revision reflects several challenges across the wider group.

Porsche Struggles With China Sales

A major problem for Porsche has been its performance in China.

Sales in the important Chinese market have fallen sharply.

At the same time, the company has faced high costs linked to changes in its electric vehicle strategy.

Volkswagen also recorded a major writedown connected to Porsche.

The financial pressure has increased expectations on Porsche CEO Michael Leiters to deliver a recovery plan.

Porsche Faces Pressure to Change Strategy

Leiters is under pressure to rebuild the brand’s performance after weak demand and strategic challenges.

Porsche had invested heavily in electric vehicles as the industry shifted toward cleaner technology.

However, changing market conditions have forced the company to rethink parts of its EV strategy.

Meanwhile, weaker Chinese demand has added another challenge.

The combination has increased pressure to reduce costs while protecting the brand’s long-term competitiveness.

More Restructuring Could Follow

The reported Porsche job cuts highlight the scale of Volkswagen’s wider restructuring effort.

The German auto group is seeking major savings as it deals with weaker demand, high costs and changing consumer preferences.

For Porsche workers, however, further reductions could mean significant changes across the company.

Volkswagen and Porsche have yet to confirm the additional 4,100 job cuts reported by Handelsblatt.
