Pakistan US-Iran Peace Efforts Gain UN Support

Pakistan US-Iran peace efforts receive UN support through diplomatic talks

The United Nations has praised Pakistan US-Iran peace efforts, saying Islamabad’s diplomatic role has become an important part of attempts to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s mediation efforts, while his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric called the country’s involvement “critical” in efforts to end the conflict.

Speaking at the UN headquarters in New York, Dujarric said Guterres was “very grateful and appreciative” of the work carried out by Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the country’s army chief.

Pakistan Supports US-Iran Dialogue

Dujarric said the understanding reached during talks in Islamabad represented “a great achievement.” Furthermore, he noted that Pakistan worked with other countries to encourage communication between the United States and Iran.

“The Secretary-General has stayed in very close touch with the Pakistani leadership,” Dujarric said. He added that the UN continues to support diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has hosted discussions focused on lowering tensions between Washington and Tehran. Islamabad has also continued diplomatic contacts to help create opportunities for further negotiations.

The United Nations has repeatedly encouraged both sides to choose dialogue and avoid actions that could increase regional instability.

UN Welcomes Possible Trump-Pezeshkian Talks

When asked whether the UN would support a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the UN General Assembly in New York, Dujarric reaffirmed the organization’s support for direct communication.

“We always support dialogue,” he said.

In addition, the UN spokesperson said renewed engagement between the two countries could help reduce the impact of the conflict, which has affected many people.

The comments came as global leaders gathered in New York for the opening of the 81st UN General Assembly high-level session.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue

The UN has repeatedly urged Washington and Tehran to return to negotiations. At the same time, the organization has recognized the role of regional countries, including Pakistan, in supporting diplomatic channels.

Earlier UN statements described the Islamabad talks as a meaningful step toward renewed engagement. As a result, Pakistan’s role has drawn international attention as efforts continue to ease tensions.

Ultimately, the UN says continued diplomacy remains essential to finding a peaceful path forward and preventing further escalation between the United States and Iran.
