Johnny Depp The Bunnyman sculpture will make its public debut at Contemporary Istanbul, marking the actor’s first venture into large-scale sculpture.
The two-metre white bronze artwork will stand outdoors at Tersane Istanbul, the historic venue on the Golden Horn. Contemporary Istanbul’s 2026 edition is scheduled for September 23 to 27.
Depp created The Bunnyman as a half-human, half-rabbit figure. The character carries what has been described as a “sword of truth.”
The unusual figure has a deeply personal origin. Depp says the idea goes back to a drawing made by his son Jack when he was about five years old.
The Bunnyman has a personal story
According to Depp, Jack’s childhood drawing reminded him of a recurring dream from his own childhood.
That memory stayed with the actor. Over time, the character became a recurring subject in Depp’s sketches, paintings and prints.
The sculpture now turns that long-running artistic idea into a physical work.
The project came together through a collaboration involving the Sigg Art Foundation, Pantheon Art and Milan-based Fonderia Artistica Battaglia.
Depp has previously spoken about the personal memories behind the character. His son’s early drawing brought back a childhood image that had remained with him for decades.
Depp continues his art career
The Istanbul unveiling comes as Depp continues to build his profile as a visual artist.
His exhibition A Bunch of Stuff is also showcasing more than 200 works at the Modern Art Museum Shanghai. The exhibition highlights another side of Depp’s creative career beyond his work in Hollywood.
The actor has developed an increasingly visible interest in painting, drawing and printmaking. Now, The Bunnyman gives him an opportunity to explore sculpture on a much larger scale.
The Istanbul presentation also places his work within an international contemporary art setting.
What comes next for Johnny Depp?
Depp remains active in film as well as visual art.
He is attached to upcoming projects including Ebenezer and Day Drinker. At the same time, his growing art portfolio continues to attract attention from collectors and galleries.
For now, however, the focus is on The Bunnyman.
The striking white bronze figure will stand at Tersane Istanbul during Contemporary Istanbul, giving visitors a chance to see Depp’s first sculpture in person.
