Aman is preparing to open its first hotel in the Maldives, with Amanolu scheduled to welcome its first guests in 2028.
The new resort will sit in the secluded Vaavu Atoll and will feature just 52 rooms. It will also include 16 private Aman-branded residences, each designed to offer a high level of privacy.
Amanolu takes its name from the Sanskrit word for peace and Olu, a water lily found across parts of the Indian Ocean. The resort aims to combine the natural setting of the Maldives with the luxury and privacy associated with the Aman brand.
Amanolu Will Have a Dedicated Wellness Island
One of the resort’s main features will be a separate island dedicated entirely to wellness.
The island will house an Aman Spa along with the brand’s signature Spa Houses. Guests will be able to use the facilities as part of a broader wellness-focused experience surrounded by the waters of the Vaavu Atoll.
Amanolu will also have a separate activity island. It will provide access to diving, snorkelling and a range of watersports.
The resort will include several restaurants and bars. However, Aman has not yet released full details about the dining concepts.
Resort Design Inspired by the Maldives
Kerry Hill Architects is designing Amanolu. The architecture firm has taken inspiration from the region’s white coral beaches, turquoise lagoons and tropical island landscape.
The design will aim to make the most of the surrounding natural environment. Guests can expect the resort to blend into its secluded setting rather than compete with it.
The location also adds to the resort’s appeal. Vaavu Atoll is known for its marine environment and relatively remote island setting.
Private Residences Will Have Their Own Islands
The 16 Aman-branded residences are expected to be among the resort’s most exclusive features.
Each residence will occupy its own private island. Some will face either sunrise or sunset, while others will have beaches on both sides.
The five-bedroom residences will include private beaches and a 25-metre swimming pool. They will also have dedicated accommodation for staff.
The private islands will give residents additional space and privacy while providing direct access to the surrounding water.
Aman Enters the Maldives Market
Amanolu will mark Aman’s first hotel in the Maldives. The destination is already known for high-end resorts, private villas and secluded island stays.
Many Maldivian resorts offer private transfers from Velana International Airport by seaplane or speedboat. Some properties also operate on their own version of “island time”, with clocks set differently from Malé.
Aman’s arrival adds another major luxury brand to the country’s competitive resort market. With its wellness island, activity facilities and private residential islands, Amanolu is being designed as more than a traditional beach resort.
The first guests are expected to arrive in 2028, although Aman has yet to announce the exact opening date.
