AT&T EchoStar Acquisition Completes $23 Billion Deal

AT&T EchoStar acquisition announcement and 5G network expansion

AT&T Finalizes Major Spectrum Deal

AT&T has completed its $23 billion acquisition of selected wireless spectrum licenses from EchoStar. The deal ranks among the biggest telecom transactions in recent years. AT&T first announced the agreement in August 2025. Now, the company expects the purchase to strengthen its nationwide wireless network.

The acquisition gives AT&T valuable spectrum assets. As a result, the company can expand 5G coverage and improve network performance across the United States.

What Spectrum Assets Did AT&T Acquire?

AT&T acquired about 50 MHz of wireless spectrum covering nearly every U.S. market.

The deal includes:

    • 30 MHz of nationwide 3.45 GHz mid-band spectrum

  • Around 20 MHz of nationwide 600 MHz low-band spectrum

These frequencies support faster speeds, wider coverage, and stronger network reliability.

Why the Acquisition Matters

Wireless spectrum remains one of the industry’s most valuable assets. It allows telecom companies to handle growing mobile data traffic more efficiently.

The new low-band and mid-band spectrum will increase AT&T’s network capacity. In addition, it will improve indoor coverage and extend high-speed service to more rural and suburban communities.

The agreement also strengthens AT&T’s position as competition among major U.S. wireless providers continues to grow.

Expanding Nationwide 5G Coverage

The 3.45 GHz mid-band spectrum plays a key role in modern 5G networks. It offers an effective balance between speed and coverage.

Meanwhile, the 600 MHz low-band spectrum carries signals over longer distances. It also improves connectivity inside buildings and other difficult locations.

Together, these assets give AT&T greater flexibility to meet rising demand for faster mobile internet and advanced digital services.

Long-Term Investment in Network Growth

The EchoStar acquisition represents another major step in AT&T’s long-term strategy. Mobile data usage continues to rise every year. Therefore, additional spectrum will remain essential for future network expansion.

With the transaction complete, AT&T plans to accelerate its 5G rollout. The company also aims to deliver faster, more reliable service to millions of customers across the country.
