Iraq US Saudi Strike Condemned by Security Council

Iraq Security Council meeting after US Saudi strike

Iraq’s National Security Council has strongly condemned the reported US-Saudi military strike that killed at least 20 militia members, calling for restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent further instability across the region.

The emergency meeting was chaired by the commander-in-chief of Iraq’s armed forces and focused on growing security concerns and efforts to prevent Iraq from becoming drawn into wider regional conflicts.

Iraq Rejects Hostile Military Actions

Following the meeting, Iraq’s National Security Council reaffirmed its opposition to hostile military actions carried out on or affecting Iraqi territory.

The council stressed that addressing security threats and protecting Iraq’s sovereignty are responsibilities of the Iraqi government.

Officials warned that unilateral military operations could undermine regional stability and further increase tensions across the Middle East.

Baghdad Calls for Diplomacy

The Iraqi government urged all parties involved in regional conflicts to prioritize diplomatic dialogue over military confrontation.

Officials said negotiations remain the most effective way to resolve disputes while preventing additional violence.

Iraqi leaders also reiterated their commitment to maintaining balanced relations with neighbouring countries and ensuring that Iraq does not become a battlefield for external conflicts.

Iraqi Presidency Raises Concerns

Iraq’s presidency had earlier condemned the reported strike and expressed concern over the use of Iraqi territory in regional military operations.

The presidency stressed that Iraq should not be used as a launch point or operational base for attacks against neighbouring countries.

It also called for respect for Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as regional tensions continue to rise.

Regional Security Concerns Grow

The latest developments come as military confrontations across the Middle East continue to fuel concerns about a wider regional conflict.

For Baghdad, preventing Iraq from becoming directly involved remains a key priority. Iraqi officials have emphasized the need to protect civilians, preserve national sovereignty and encourage diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.

The government’s response reflects its broader effort to prevent external military conflicts from spilling further into Iraqi territory.
