Oman has launched the Oman Midad Digital Centre at Innovation Park Muscat to support digital innovation and technical skills.
The new centre will focus on knowledge transfer, emerging technologies and practical digital training.
It brings together government institutions, private companies, universities and technology organizations.
The initiative aims to strengthen Oman’s capabilities in areas that are becoming increasingly important to the digital economy.
Oman Midad Digital Centre Focuses on Emerging Technology
The Research and Innovation Authority (RIA) officially inaugurated the centre under the patronage of its chairman, Dr Saif bin Abdullah Al Hadabi.
The Oman Midad Digital Centre will focus on advanced communications and emerging technologies.
Its areas of work include 5G networks, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.
The centre will also provide pathways for research projects and innovative ideas to develop into practical products and services.
Digital Skills at the Heart of the Initiative
Najah bint Mohammed Al Rashidi, Acting Director-General of the Innovation Centre, described the project as an important step for Oman’s digital development.
She highlighted its role in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.
The initiative also supports Oman’s goal of building a sustainable, knowledge-based economy under Oman Vision 2040.
In addition, Al Rashidi emphasized partnerships between national institutions and international technology companies.
She said Omani young people would remain central to the centre’s skills and innovation programmes.
Ericsson Supports Oman’s Digital Ecosystem
Petra Schirren, President of Ericsson Gulf, welcomed the centre’s launch.
She described it as an important milestone for Oman’s digital ecosystem.
Ericsson will serve as the technology and knowledge partner for the initiative.
The company will support local talent development and programmes designed to build future-ready technical skills.
Ibn Firnas Academy Operates Digital Programmes
The centre will be operated by the Ibn Firnas Academy.
Its programmes will include a Digital Lab that gives students practical experience with emerging technologies.
Students can work on projects involving robotics, programming, electronics and digital applications.
The lab will also provide opportunities for game development.
This hands-on approach is designed to connect technical education with practical innovation.
Public and Private Partners Join Initiative
The Oman Midad Digital Centre is backed by several organizations.
The partnership includes the Research and Innovation Authority, Ministry of Finance, Ericsson, Omantel and the Ibn Firnas Academy Oman.
The RIA provides institutional oversight for the initiative.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance supported the project through the Partnership for Development programme.
Ericsson contributes technology and knowledge, while Omantel supports the centre’s technical environment.
The telecommunications company will also help integrate the centre with Oman’s national communications ecosystem.
Centre Supports Oman Vision 2040
Officials say the initiative will strengthen cooperation between government, academia and industry.
It will also help develop skills needed for Oman’s transition toward a more innovation-driven economy.
