Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in London on Saturday after completing his visit to New York for the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The prime minister led Pakistan’s delegation during the UNGA session. He is expected to stay in London for a few days before returning to Islamabad.
During his five-day visit to New York, Shehbaz addressed the 193-member General Assembly and held several high-level meetings. His discussions covered regional security, global challenges and bilateral relations.
The prime minister also met Pakistani-American business leaders. He encouraged them to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif Meets UN Secretary-General
During his UNGA visit, Shehbaz Sharif met UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York.
The two leaders discussed major regional and international developments, including tensions in the Middle East. Shehbaz stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts.
The meeting also covered Pakistan’s role in supporting peace and stability. Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and its contribution to international peace and security.
PM Shehbaz Warns Against Water Diversion
In his General Assembly address, Shehbaz Sharif said dialogue and diplomacy should remain the preferred means of resolving conflicts.
However, he issued a strong warning over Pakistan’s water rights. He said any attempt to stop, impede or divert Pakistan’s share of river waters would be treated as an act of war.
He also stressed that water should not become a tool of conflict between countries.
Pakistan Reaffirms Global Development Initiative Support
Before leaving New York, Shehbaz Sharif also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Global Development Initiative.
He described the initiative as an important platform for strengthening solidarity, promoting South-South cooperation and delivering practical results for developing countries.
Speaking at a high-level GDI meeting hosted by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, the prime minister highlighted the importance of international cooperation.
He also linked the GDI’s objectives with Pakistan’s national economic transformation plans.
Pakistan-China Economic Cooperation
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s continuing cooperation with China through the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
He said CPEC is entering its second phase, creating opportunities for further economic cooperation between the two countries.
The prime minister has repeatedly emphasized investment, economic development and international partnerships as key parts of Pakistan’s development agenda.
PM Shehbaz Heads to London
The PM Shehbaz London stop comes after an intensive diplomatic schedule in New York.
During the UNGA visit, he held meetings with several international leaders and senior officials. He also discussed Pakistan’s economic priorities and regional security concerns.
The prime minister is now expected to spend several days in London before departing for Islamabad.
His UNGA visit placed Pakistan’s positions on diplomacy, regional stability, development, climate change and economic cooperation before the international community.
