Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest is bringing back familiar MCU characters while introducing several new faces. The series will continue the story that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along.
VisionQuest is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on October 14, 2026. Marvel Studios has described the show as the concluding chapter of the trilogy.
VisionQuest Cast Includes Paul Bettany and James Spader
Paul Bettany returns as Vision, the central character of the new series. James Spader will also return as the voice of Ultron.
The confirmed cast includes Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Emily Hampshire and James D’Arcy.
James D’Arcy will return to the Marvel universe after previously playing Edwin Jarvis. In VisionQuest, he is part of the story surrounding the artificial intelligence systems connected to Vision.
The series will also feature several AI characters, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron.
Thomas Shepherd Joins Vision’s Story
Ruaridh Mollica plays Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious young boy who becomes connected to Vision.
Marvel’s official synopsis says Vision goes into hiding after escaping people who want to weaponize him. He later encounters Thomas while trying to understand his new existence.
Thomas may have a deeper connection to Vision and Wanda. The character is widely associated with Tommy Maximoff in Marvel Comics and the MCU, although viewers will have to wait for the series to learn exactly how the storyline develops.
Vision’s situation becomes more complicated after a bounty is placed on him. He is forced to go on the run while trying to uncover the mystery surrounding the young boy.
Ultron Returns in VisionQuest
James Spader’s return as Ultron is one of the most notable parts of the new series.
Vision will interact with several artificial intelligence personas embedded within his programming. These include F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H. and J.A.R.V.I.S.
Ultron also plays an important role in the story. Marvel says Vision must confront his own nature while resisting Ultron’s influence.
The setup could connect VisionQuest to some of the MCU’s earlier artificial intelligence storylines while giving the character a new direction after the events of WandaVision.
Rumored Marvel Characters
Several other MCU appearances have been reported or rumored, although they are not part of Disney’s confirmed cast announcement.
Faran Tahir has reportedly been linked to a return as Raza, the character he played in Iron Man. However, Disney’s official announcement does not list him among the confirmed cast.
Tom Hiddleston has also been rumored to appear as Loki, while Elizabeth Olsen has been linked to a possible return as Wanda Maximoff.
Neither Hiddleston’s nor Olsen’s appearance has been officially confirmed in the cast announcement.
VisionQuest Completes the Disney+ Trilogy
VisionQuest follows WandaVision, which introduced Vision and Wanda’s unusual family story on Disney+, and Agatha All Along, which expanded that storyline.
Marvel says the new series will explore Vision’s search for meaning after being rebooted and escaping those who wanted to use him as a weapon.
The combination of returning characters, new cast members and several major AI figures gives the series a strong connection to the wider MCU.
With the October 14 premiere approaching, more details about the characters and story are expected to emerge before the series arrives on Disney+.
