Wegovy Pill Weight Loss May Help Reverse Recent Weight Gain

The Wegovy pill weight loss results could offer new hope to people trying to reverse recently gained weight.

An early analysis of real-world data suggests that Novo Nordisk’s oral Wegovy may work especially well for people whose weight gain happened within the past five years.

Researchers reviewed data from 3,011 patients who had prescriptions for oral Wegovy. Each patient also had a follow-up weight measurement within 180 days.

The analysis found a notable pattern. People who had recently gained weight were much more likely to become what researchers called “super-responders.”

Wegovy Pill Weight Loss Shows Strong Response

Researchers defined super-responders as patients who lost more than 10% of their starting body weight during treatment.

The study found that people with a recent history of weight gain had a stronger response within several months.

However, the researchers have not established that recent weight gain directly causes a better response to the Wegovy pill.

Study leader Venky Soundararajan said the pattern appeared across different age groups.

He noted that people aged 30, 60 or even 90 could potentially reverse recent weight gain more easily when that weight gain occurred within the previous five years.

Oral Wegovy Users Started at Lower Weight

The analysis also found differences between super-responders and other patients.

Super-responders started treatment at an average weight of about 207 pounds, or 94.1 kilograms.

By comparison, other patients started at around 224.21 pounds, or 101.7 kilograms.

Researchers published the findings online. However, the report has not yet undergone peer review.

Wegovy Pill Dose May Affect Weight Loss

The study also identified a link between dosage and response.

Super-responders were more likely to increase their dose above the 1.5-milligram starting dose by day 60.

Therefore, treatment progression may play a role in the weight-loss results.

Still, the researchers said the analysis cannot determine whether dose increases directly caused greater weight loss.

Blood Pressure Also Improved

The benefits did not appear limited to body weight.

Researchers found that patients’ blood pressure improved significantly as they continued taking the pills.

Moreover, the reduction in blood pressure was directly linked to the amount of weight patients lost.

That finding adds to the growing interest in oral GLP-1 medicines for weight management.

Researchers Call for Larger Studies

The researchers stressed that the findings remain preliminary.

The analysis shows an association rather than a proven cause-and-effect relationship. In other words, recent weight gain may help predict a stronger response, but more research is needed.

The authors said future studies should examine whether a person’s pre-treatment weight trajectory can reliably predict how well they respond to oral Wegovy.

For now, the early Wegovy pill weight loss data suggest that the timing of weight gain could become an important factor in understanding treatment response.
