Apple has extended its free satellite connectivity trial for supported older iPhone models, giving users more time to access emergency services without paying a subscription. The extension allows eligible devices to continue using key satellite features for another 12 months.
The change was highlighted in documentation linked to Apple’s latest iPhone lineup. It applies to supported models ranging from the iPhone 14 through the iPhone 16 family. As a result, owners of eligible devices can continue using satellite-based emergency features during the extended trial period.
Satellite Emergency Features Remain Free
Users who activated an eligible iPhone before September 9, 2026, can continue accessing several satellite services. These include Emergency SOS via satellite, satellite messaging, location sharing through Find My, and roadside assistance.
Importantly, users will not be asked to subscribe or pay for these services during the extended trial. The features can be particularly useful when someone is outside cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
Apple first introduced satellite emergency connectivity with the iPhone 14 series in 2022. Since then, the company has continued expanding the technology and extending the period during which customers can use it without charge.
The latest extension is the third for the iPhone 14 family. It is also the second extension for the iPhone 15 lineup and the first for compatible iPhone 16 models. Therefore, the move gives millions of eligible users additional access to an important safety feature.
