Bangladesh recall Towhid Hridoy for their one-off Test against Afghanistan next month in the United Arab Emirates.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board named a 15-member squad for the Test. The match will begin in Abu Dhabi on October 9.
Hridoy returns after producing a remarkable performance for Bangladesh A in South Africa. He scored an unbeaten 350 in the recent first-class match.
Bangladesh Recall Hridoy as Taskin Ahmed Rests
While Hridoy returns, Bangladesh will rest experienced fast bowler Taskin Ahmed.
The decision forms part of Bangladesh’s workload management plan. The team wants Taskin ready for its upcoming World Test Championship matches.
Chief selector Habibul Bashar explained the decision.
“Obviously, we are prioritising our WTC Test matches,” Bashar said.
He added that the team wants Taskin fully available for the West Indies Test series. Therefore, selectors left him out of the Afghanistan Test.
Nahid Rana Misses Afghanistan Test
Fast bowler Nahid Rana will also miss the match.
Rana will only become available on October 10. That is one day after the Test begins.
As a result, Bangladesh selected other pace options for the Abu Dhabi match.
The squad includes Hasan Mahmud, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam.
Bangladesh Prepare for WTC Schedule
The Afghanistan Test comes as Bangladesh prepare for a demanding period of Test cricket.
The team will host the West Indies for two Tests before facing South Africa and England during the current World Test Championship cycle.
Consequently, selectors are managing their players carefully.
Taskin’s absence reflects the team’s focus on keeping key players fit for the longer WTC schedule.
