The Russia Europe Ukraine talks dispute has intensified after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused European countries of blocking peace efforts.
Lavrov made the accusation during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday.
His comments came as Russian and Ukrainian strikes continued to cause casualties on both sides.
Russia Europe Ukraine Talks Remain Stalled
Lavrov said Europe was trying to prevent negotiations supported by US President Donald Trump’s administration.
He argued that European governments were working against diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
However, Moscow and Kyiv have yet to reach a breakthrough through US-led discussions.
Lavrov also said Russia would continue pursuing its stated military objectives in Ukraine.
Russian and Ukrainian Strikes Continue
Russian and Ukrainian forces have continued exchanging attacks as diplomatic efforts remain unresolved.
Ukrainian officials reported deaths from Russian strikes in several regions, including Sumy, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk.
Russian officials, meanwhile, reported deaths from Ukrainian attacks in the Krasnodar and Belgorod regions.
Officials in Russian-occupied parts of southern Ukraine also reported additional deaths.
The latest attacks add to concerns over civilian casualties as the war continues.
Zelensky Calls for More Pressure on Moscow
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of escalating the conflict.
He has also called on Ukraine’s allies to increase sanctions pressure on Moscow.
Ukraine has increasingly used long-range drones against targets inside Russia.
Meanwhile, Russia has continued missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
Lavrov Meets German Foreign Minister
Before his UN address, Lavrov met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.
The meeting was significant because it was the first encounter between the Russian and German foreign ministers since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Wadephul urged Russia to abandon what Germany described as an escalating approach toward Germany, Europe and NATO.
German officials have also accused Russia of involvement in hybrid and sabotage activities in Europe.
Moscow has rejected Western accusations concerning its activities.
Germany and Russia Remain at Odds
Relations between Berlin and Moscow have deteriorated sharply since the invasion of Ukraine.
Germany remains one of Ukraine’s major European supporters.
Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly criticized Germany’s military and political backing for Kyiv.
Lavrov used his UN speech to criticize Berlin again.
He also opposed giving additional permanent seats on the UN Security Council to Western countries such as Germany and Japan.
Diplomatic Efforts Continue
The latest developments show the difficulty of restarting meaningful negotiations.
US officials have continued engaging with both Russian and Ukrainian representatives.
Lavrov also met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New York during the UN General Assembly.
Despite those contacts, fighting has continued across Ukraine and Russia.
For now, the Russia Europe Ukraine talks dispute remains part of a wider disagreement over how the war should end and what conditions could lead to negotiations.
