Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has reaffirmed his country’s support for Saudi Arabia following repeated attacks targeting the Kingdom.
In messages to Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, he said Morocco stood with Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty and stability.
The Moroccan monarch also condemned attacks against civilian and economic facilities, infrastructure, cities and populated areas.
He said attempts to target Makkah and Madinah had intensified Morocco’s condemnation of the attacks.
King Mohammed VI Saudi Arabia Support
King Mohammed VI said Morocco’s position reflected what he described as historical, religious and strategic responsibilities.
He called for unity in defending Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security and holy sites.
“Any attack on Saudi Arabia is an attack on Morocco,” the king said, according to Saudi Gazette.
He added that support for Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council states reflected what he described as shared strategic interests.
Morocco Condemns Houthi Attacks
The Moroccan king specifically condemned attacks attributed to the Houthis.
He held the Houthis and those who support, finance or arm them responsible for the attacks.
King Mohammed VI said the violence affected more than Saudi Arabia and its population.
He also said attacks involving the holy cities could affect the sentiments of Muslims worldwide.
Saudi Arabia Security Linked to Regional Stability
King Mohammed VI said Morocco views Saudi Arabia’s security as closely connected to the security of the Gulf region.
He also warned that continued attacks could threaten important maritime routes.
Those routes play a major role in international trade and navigation.
His comments come as several Arab and Muslim countries have publicly condemned recent attacks against Saudi Arabia and expressed solidarity with the Kingdom.
Morocco Raises International Law Concerns
The Moroccan monarch also referred to international law and United Nations resolutions.
He cited UN Security Council Resolution 2216, adopted in 2015, and Resolution 2722, adopted in 2024.
King Mohammed VI said attacks on civilian areas, economic facilities and holy sites violated international humanitarian law and international norms.
He called for those responsible to be held accountable.
Regional Tensions Continue
The statement comes amid continued regional tensions and attacks involving Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has repeatedly said it has the right to defend its territory, citizens and vital interests under international law.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have also discussed security cooperation under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, which states that an attack against one party constitutes an attack against all parties.
Morocco’s latest message therefore adds another expression of diplomatic support for Saudi Arabia as regional tensions continue.
