Saudi Arabia has lifted a Saudi Arabia danger alert issued across five areas after authorities warned residents of a potential threat on Thursday.
The General Directorate of Civil Defense activated alerts for Mecca, Taif, Jeddah, Yanbu and Tabuk through the National Early Warning Platform. Authorities later announced that the danger had passed in the affected areas.
The warnings came as Saudi Arabia faced continued security concerns linked to missile and drone attacks attributed to the Houthis in Yemen.
However, Civil Defense did not initially identify the nature of the potential danger. Authorities also did not report casualties or property damage from the alert itself.
Residents Told to Follow Safety Instructions
During the warning period, Saudi authorities urged residents to follow official Civil Defense instructions.
They also advised people to avoid gatherings and filming. Such instructions have accompanied several recent emergency alerts across the kingdom.
The authorities lifted the warnings shortly after issuing them. Reports said the alerts covered areas across western and northwestern Saudi Arabia, including the holy city of Mecca and the Red Sea cities of Jeddah and Yanbu.
The latest incident did not result in a publicly reported disruption at the Grand Mosque or other major sites in Mecca.
Houthi Attacks Raise Regional Security Concerns
The alerts came amid a wider escalation involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi authorities have reported several recent missile and drone attacks targeting parts of the kingdom. On September 24, Saudi air defenses said they intercepted six ballistic missiles launched toward Taif and Yanbu.
The Saudi-led coalition has also reported other attacks against civilian areas and infrastructure in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, the Houthis have claimed responsibility for several attacks involving Saudi-linked targets. The group has also announced what it described as a maritime blockade targeting Saudi Arabia.
Mecca Remains a Major Security Focus
The alert for Mecca carries particular significance because the city is home to the Grand Mosque and the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site.
Saudi authorities previously issued an emergency warning for Mecca earlier in September. They later lifted that alert as well.
The Houthis have denied Saudi accusations that they deliberately attempted to target Mecca. Therefore, the precise nature of the latest warning remains unclear.
At the same time, the repeated alerts show the broader security pressure facing Saudi Arabia as attacks continue across different parts of the kingdom.
Authorities Continue to Monitor the Situation
The latest Saudi Arabia danger alert ended without a publicly reported casualty or damage linked directly to the warning.
Nevertheless, officials continue to urge residents to rely on official information and follow Civil Defense instructions during emergencies.
The situation also remains fluid because Saudi Arabia continues to face missile and drone threats connected to the wider regional conflict. As a result, authorities may issue further warnings if they detect another potential threat.
