Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir held a “positive and productive” meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said, as Islamabad steps up diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States.
Naqvi said the discussions covered the ongoing Iran-US conflict, rising tensions in the Middle East and possible steps toward a peaceful resolution. The two sides also discussed measures needed to restore the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Asim Munir Discusses Iran-US Conflict With Pezeshkian
According to Naqvi, the Iranian president openly presented his government’s position and concerns during the meeting.
The interior minister described the talks as an important diplomatic development. He said the discussions produced meaningful progress and ended on a highly positive note.
Naqvi also expressed hope that the momentum from the meeting would encourage further diplomatic efforts and contribute to lasting peace in the region.
The meeting came during a day-long visit to Iran by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Pakistan Pushes for Regional De-escalation

During the visit, Field Marshal Munir met several senior Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Supreme National Security Council representative Mohsen Rezaei, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
The discussions covered several urgent regional issues.
Strait of Hormuz Also Discussed
Officials focused on ways to prevent further escalation and discussed the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The strategically important waterway plays a major role in global energy supplies. Any prolonged disruption could affect international trade and energy markets.
Pakistan and Iran also exchanged views on regional security and possible routes toward a negotiated settlement.
The discussions came as Islamabad continues to promote dialogue rather than further military escalation.
