PSX Market Falls 1,690 Points as KSE-100 Ends Lower

PSX market falls as KSE-100 index drops 1,690 points

The PSX market closed lower on Wednesday, September 2, as selling pressure pushed the KSE-100 index down by 1,690.40 points.

The benchmark index fell 0.96% and closed at 174,776.60. It had ended the previous session at 176,466.99. Official Pakistan Stock Exchange data confirmed the decline.

The KSE-100 index moved between an intraday high of 175,841.83 and a low of 174,562.88. The index finished close to the day’s lower level, showing continued pressure on the market.

PSX Market Sees Broad-Based Decline

The PSX market recorded a broad decline across listed companies.

A total of 501 companies traded during the session. Of these, 113 stocks closed higher, while 356 ended lower. Another 32 companies remained unchanged.

The figures show that selling activity affected a large portion of the market. The decline also extended beyond the KSE-100 index, with other major PSX indices ending the session in negative territory.

The KSE All Share Index fell 1,065.46 points, or about 0.99%. It closed at 106,113.05.

The KSE-30 index also declined. It lost 498.16 points and finished at 52,134.27.

Trading Activity Declines

Trading activity also weakened during Wednesday’s session.

The market recorded turnover of about 610.18 million shares. That was lower than the 784.47 million shares traded during the previous session.

The total traded value also declined. It fell to around Rs.31.86 billion from Rs.37.41 billion previously.

The lower turnover suggests that overall market activity slowed during the session. Investors remained cautious as stocks faced widespread selling pressure.

Market Capitalisation Falls

The decline in share prices also reduced the total market value of listed companies.

PSX market capitalisation stood at approximately Rs.19.58 trillion at the close. That compares with about Rs.19.78 trillion in the previous session.

The drop represents a notable decline in the overall value of the listed equity market.

KSE-100 Remains Above 174,000

Despite Wednesday’s decline, the KSE-100 index remained above the 174,000 level.

The official PSX data showed a day range between 174,562.88 and 175,841.83. The closing level of 174,776.60 placed the index near the bottom of that range.

The market’s performance will remain closely watched in the next session. Investors will assess trading volumes, corporate activity and broader economic developments for signs of a recovery.

For now, Wednesday’s session ended with a clear negative trend. Most traded companies closed lower, while the benchmark index recorded a loss of more than 1,600 points.
