Saudi business confidence strengthened in August, with the official Business Confidence Index (BCI) rising to 56.7 points from 56.5 in July. The 0.2-point increase points to continued optimism among businesses operating in the country’s non-oil private sector.
The latest reading remains comfortably above the key 50-point level. As a result, the index continues to indicate positive sentiment about short-term business activity, operating conditions and the broader Saudi economic environment.
The figures, released on August 8, highlight continued confidence in the non-oil economy as Saudi Arabia advances its economic diversification plans under Vision 2030.
Industrial and Services Confidence Strengthen
Industrial businesses recorded a notable improvement in confidence during August. The industrial index climbed to 55.8 points, up from 54.7 in July.
The 1.04-point increase reflected stronger expectations around production and employment. Therefore, the latest figures suggest industrial companies are becoming more confident about their near-term operating prospects.
Meanwhile, confidence in the services sector also improved. The services index increased by 0.9 points to 56.1, compared with 55.3 in July.
Businesses in the sector reported stronger sentiment around investment and overall performance. In addition, the improvement suggests that services companies continue to see opportunities as domestic economic activity expands.
Construction Confidence Remains Highest
Construction was the only major sector highlighted as recording a decline in confidence. Its index fell by 0.4 points to 57.3 in August.
Despite the monthly decline, construction still recorded the highest confidence reading among the sectors. The sector continues to benefit from major development programmes and large-scale projects linked to Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation.
However, concerns over current and future costs weighed on sentiment. Input prices and other cost pressures remain important considerations for construction companies as major projects progress.
Vision 2030 Supports Non-Oil Economy
The latest BCI figures underline the resilience of Saudi Arabia’s non-oil private sector. Although the monthly increase was modest, confidence remained firmly above the 50-point threshold.
Moreover, domestic companies continue to operate against a backdrop of global economic uncertainty and supply-chain pressures. Stronger activity in manufacturing and services, together with public investment, is helping support expectations for further growth.
Saudi Vision 2030 remains central to the country’s efforts to reduce its reliance on oil revenues. The strategy has encouraged investment across manufacturing, tourism, construction, technology and other parts of the non-oil economy.
For now, the August confidence reading suggests businesses remain broadly positive about domestic opportunities. If investment and private-sector activity continue to strengthen, that optimism could support further expansion during the remainder of the year.
