Axel Rudakubana, who was jailed for killing three girls at a Southport dance event, has appeared in a London court over new allegations involving prison staff.
Prosecutors allege that Rudakubana threw boiling water mixed with sugar at a prison officer. The incident reportedly happened at Belmarsh prison in London in May 2025.
Rudakubana, now 20, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday by video link. He joined the hearing from Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital.
Rudakubana Faces Several Prison Charges
Rudakubana was charged in July with attempted grievous bodily harm over the alleged attack on the prison officer.
He also faces two counts of assaulting an emergency worker. Prosecutors link those charges to separate incidents in May and October 2025.
In addition, he has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon in prison. Authorities allegedly found pieces of stone in his cell.
Rudakubana did not enter a plea during Monday’s hearing. He only confirmed his name and date of birth. He also confirmed that he could hear the judge.
His next hearing is scheduled at the Old Bailey in London on October 19.
Southport Attack Killed Three Girls
Rudakubana was 17 when he carried out the attack in Southport on July 29, 2024.
The attack took place at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event. Three girls were killed: six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar.
Ten other people were also injured.
The attack triggered several days of rioting across parts of the United Kingdom. Rudakubana later admitted the murders and received a minimum prison sentence of 52 years.
New Allegations Remain Before the Court
The latest charges concern incidents that allegedly occurred after Rudakubana entered prison. They are separate from the convictions and sentence for the Southport killings.
The court has not determined whether he committed the alleged assaults or possessed the reported weapon.
Rudakubana remains in custody while the new case proceeds through the courts. His next appearance at the Old Bailey is expected to deal with the further legal proceedings.
