Travis Head leads Australia’s cricket awards
Travis Head has won the Allan Border Medal for the second consecutive year after narrowly finishing ahead of Alex Carey in Australia’s top men’s cricket honour.
Head collected 153 votes, just one more than South Australia teammate Carey. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc finished third with 150 votes.
Players, media representatives and umpires voted for the award, which was presented at a ceremony in Brisbane on Friday.
Head played 30 international matches across Tests, ODIs and T20s during the 2025-26 season. He finished the campaign with 1,437 runs and produced several important performances for Australia.
Head’s Ashes performances stand out
The batsman’s strongest period came during the Ashes series against England. Head struck a remarkable 123 from 83 balls in Perth, helping Australia secure an eight-wicket victory.
He followed that innings with two more centuries during the series, further strengthening his claim to the Travis Head Allan Border Medal.
The back-to-back victory also puts Head among an exclusive group of Australian players. He is only the fifth cricketer to win the medal in consecutive years.
Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, David Warner and Shane Watson previously achieved the feat.
Reflecting on the achievement, Head said having two medals for his children to look back on in the future was particularly meaningful.
Starc and Marsh also recognised
Starc took home the Australian Test Player of the Year award after another demanding season. He played all 11 Tests and claimed 31 wickets during the Ashes.
Mitchell Marsh was named Australia’s ODI Player of the Year, while Tim David received the T20 Player of the Year award.
The women’s top honour had already been decided earlier this year, with Annabel Sutherland winning her second consecutive Belinda Clark Award.
The latest honours highlight a strong season for Australian cricket, with Head’s second Allan Border Medal adding another major achievement to his growing international career.
