Bangladesh India cricket series as officials work to save the six-match tour

Bangladesh India Cricket Series Faces Uncertainty

The Bangladesh India cricket series faces uncertainty as officials from both countries work to save a six-match white-ball tour planned for next month.

The tour includes three one-day internationals and three T20 matches. However, political tensions between Dhaka and New Delhi have raised doubts about whether the series will take place as scheduled.

Bangladesh Sports Minister Aminul Haque said the issue had reached the ministerial level. He confirmed that foreign ministers from both countries were involved in ongoing discussions.

Officials Try to Resolve Cricket Dispute

Haque said Bangladesh wants to resolve the dispute quickly. We want to quickly resolve the deadlock that was created around the Cricket World Cup,he said.

He also expressed hope that the two sides could reach an agreement soon.

The discussions come as Bangladesh and India continue to deal with strained political relations.

Political Tensions Affect Cricket

Relations between the neighboring countries deteriorated after Bangladesh’s mass uprising in 2024.The protests eventually removed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power. She later fled to India, where she remains in hiding. The political dispute has affected sporting relations as well.

Bangladesh previously postponed the planned white-ball tour of India. The six-match series had originally been scheduled for August last year.

Bangladesh Skipped T20 World Cup Matches

Tensions also affected Bangladesh’s participation in international cricket. In February, Bangladesh declined to send its team to India for the T20 World Cup. Officials cited security concerns surrounding the tournament.

Bangladesh then asked the International Cricket Council to move its matches to Sri Lanka.

However, the ICC rejected that request. Scotland subsequently replaced Bangladesh in the tournament. The dispute has since created additional pressure on cricket officials to find a solution.

Bangladesh India Cricket Series Could Restore Sporting Ties

The upcoming Bangladesh India cricket series could provide an opportunity to ease some of the tension between the two countries.Cricket remains hugely popular in both nations. Previous bilateral tours have attracted significant attention from fans across South Asia.

Bangladesh last hosted India for a cricket series in 2022.

India won the two-Test series 2-0, while Bangladesh claimed the ODI series 2-1.

India Dominated Bangladesh in 2024

Bangladesh most recently toured India in September and October 2024.The teams played two Tests and two T20 matches during that tour.India won both formats, completing a clean sweep across the four matches.

The proposed six-match tour would therefore give Bangladesh another chance to challenge India in both limited-overs formats.

What the Six-Match Tour Includes

The planned tour consists of:

    • Three ODIs

  • Three T20 internationals

The matches are expected to form an important part of both teams’ white-ball schedules.

However, the political dispute must be resolved before cricket authorities can move forward with certainty

Bangladesh and India Hope for a Quick Solution

Bangladesh’s sports minister has indicated that talks remain active. Both governments now have an opportunity to settle the disagreement before it causes another disruption to international cricket. For Bangladesh, completing the tour would restore an important bilateral cricket fixture. For India, the series would provide another competitive white-ball assignment against a familiar regional opponent.

For now, however, the Bangladesh India cricket series remains dependent on diplomatic discussions between the two countries.
