Amazon Pharmacy weight-loss drugs are now available to eligible Medicare beneficiaries for $50 per month under a new federal bridge program aimed at expanding access to obesity treatments. The initiative simplifies enrollment, insurance verification, and prescription approval while giving patients the option of home delivery or in-store pickup.
The move reflects Amazon’s growing role in healthcare as demand for weight-loss medications continues to increase across the United States.
Amazon Pharmacy Weight-Loss Drugs Program Explained
Amazon Pharmacy announced that eligible Medicare patients can access several leading weight-loss medications through the federal Medicare Bridge Program, introduced last month.
The company said it will automatically handle:
- Insurance eligibility verification
- Prior authorization requests
- Medicare billing
- Prescription processing
This streamlined system reduces paperwork for patients and healthcare providers while speeding up access to treatment.
Eligible Medications Included
The Medicare Bridge Program currently covers several popular obesity treatments, including:
-
- Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy (injection and pill)
-
- Eli Lilly’s Zepbound KwikPen (four-dose injection)
- Foundayo tablets
The program does not include single-dose Zepbound pens or vials.
Federal officials expect the program to remain available through the end of 2027.
Faster Prescription Approvals
Amazon Pharmacy says most patients receive prior authorization decisions in less than 24 hours, significantly faster than the 72-hour timeframe allowed under the Medicare Bridge Program.
According to Amazon executive Tanvi Patel, many approved prescriptions have already resulted in completed medication orders, allowing patients to begin treatment sooner.
Home Delivery and One Medical Support
Patients can choose either home delivery or pickup depending on their preference.
Amazon also continues expanding healthcare services through One Medical, the primary care provider it acquired in 2023.
One Medical offers primary and urgent care through an annual membership and allows clinicians to send electronic prescriptions directly to Amazon Pharmacy.
Same-Day Delivery Continues to Grow
Amazon said same-day pharmacy delivery is currently available in more than 3,100 cities and towns across the United States.
The company expects that network to expand to nearly 4,500 locations by the end of 2026, making prescription medications more accessible to millions of Americans.
The expansion strengthens Amazon’s long-term strategy of combining digital healthcare services with fast pharmaceutical delivery.
