Actor Michael Wright, best known for his performances in The Five Heartbeats, Sugar Hill, V and Oz, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 70.
Wright died on August 19, according to his family.
His wife, Susan Wright, announced his death in a heartfelt message on Instagram.
“It is with profound sadness and an unimaginable heaviness in my heart that I share the passing of my beloved husband, Michael Wright,” she wrote.
According to a family statement cited by TMZ, Wright died from heart failure along with complications linked to Marchiafava-Bignami disease.
Michael Wright’s Acting Career
Michael Wright began his film career in 1979 with the coming-of-age drama The Wanderers.
He followed that performance with a role in Robert Altman’s 1983 film Streamers. Wright and the rest of the main cast shared the Best Actor Award at the Venice Film Festival for their performances.
His breakthrough came in 1991 when he played Eddie King Jr. in Robert Townsend’s musical drama The Five Heartbeats.
The film followed a fictional singing group and explored friendship, ambition, fame and the pressures of the music industry.
