Marvel Studios is expanding its new X-Men cast, with Gen V star Asa Germann set to play the winged mutant Angel.
Germann will portray Warren Worthington III, one of the classic characters from Marvel’s mutant comics. His casting adds another young star to an increasingly high-profile ensemble.
The new X-Men movie will be directed by Jake Schreier, who previously helmed Thunderbolts. Marvel has scheduled the film for May 5, 2028.
Asa Germann Joins the X-Men Cast
Germann is best known for playing Sam Riordan in Amazon Prime Video’s superhero series Gen V.
His character in that show has extraordinary strength and durability. Sam also struggles with serious mental health issues and becomes caught in the conflict between his friends and the powerful forces controlling their world.
Germann later appeared in The Boys Season 4. He has also taken roles outside the superhero genre, including an appearance in Scream 7.
Now, he is moving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Angel Is a Classic Marvel Mutant
Angel, whose real name is Warren Worthington III, is one of the X-Men’s long-standing characters.
He possesses large wings that allow him to fly. In some comic-book storylines, Warren undergoes a major transformation and becomes Archangel.
The character has already appeared in earlier X-Men movies.
Ben Foster played Warren in X-Men: The Last Stand. Ben Hardy later portrayed a version of the character in X-Men: Apocalypse, where Warren transformed into the darker Archangel.
Germann’s casting gives Marvel a new opportunity to introduce the character to the MCU.
Marvel Builds a New X-Men Team
Marvel Studios has already revealed several members of its new mutant team.
Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey, while Kit Connor will portray Cyclops. Samara Weaving has been cast as Emma Frost.
Meanwhile, Inde Navarrette will play Rogue, Christopher Abbott will portray Professor X and Maya Boyd will take on the role of Storm.
Adam Driver is also joining the movie as the classic villain Mister Sinister. Marvel revealed the core lineup during its D23 presentation.
The casting marks a fresh start for the X-Men on the big screen. Marvel has previously said the new team will follow the MCU’s broader direction after Avengers: Secret Wars.
Jake Schreier Directs Marvel’s X-Men
Schreier is directing the new film after leading Thunderbolts.
The project represents Marvel’s first major attempt to build a new X-Men team as part of the MCU. The studio previously controlled the characters through its ownership of 20th Century Fox, which Disney acquired in 2019.
The new movie will therefore introduce familiar mutants to a different cinematic universe.
For fans, Germann’s addition adds another recognizable superhero performer to the cast. His experience playing a complicated young superhuman in Gen V could also make him an interesting choice for Angel.
Marvel has not revealed major plot details yet. However, with the cast continuing to grow, anticipation around the 2028 film is building.
X-Men is currently scheduled to reach cinemas on May 5, 2028.
