Four people have appeared in court over the death of a baby girl in Sheffield.
Police found the newborn at a house in Holywell Heights, Wincobank, on Sunday. The baby, known as Baby S in court, had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Andrea Skopova, 20, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court. Peter Horvath, 19, Nina Horvathova, 37, and Peter Horvath, 38, also appeared before magistrates.
Prosecutors charged all four with murder. They also face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child.
The four defendants also face allegations of attempting to conceal the infant’s death. That charge relates to perverting the course of justice.
Fifth person also appears in court
A 15-year-old girl also appeared at the hearing. The court cannot identify her because of her age.
Police charged the teenager with perverting the course of justice. She faces a separate case from the four adults.
All five defendants are Slovakian nationals. The court remanded them in custody.
They will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday.
Flowers and cuddly toys have since appeared outside the house in Holywell Heights. Members of the local community have left the tributes near the property.
Police appeal for restraint
Earlier, police arrested two women aged 26 and 37 on suspicion of murder. Officers released both women on bail while the investigation continues.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward said the court hearing marked an important stage in the investigation.
He thanked local residents for their support following the baby’s death. He also urged people not to speculate about the case online.
Police have asked the public not to share unverified information or comments about the investigation. Officers said protecting the legal process remains a priority.
Police teams will continue working in and around Holywell Heights. They are carrying out further inquiries as investigators build their case.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the defendants are now before the courts.
