Henry Cavill is returning to the spy genre with a new Netflix movie alongside Kevin Hart.
The untitled project has started attracting attention after new set photos offered a first look at the two stars in character. The images show Cavill and Hart together during filming, giving fans an early glimpse of their unlikely on-screen partnership.
In one photo, Cavill sits on a red motorcycle while Hart talks nearby. Cavill wears an all-black outfit with a jacket, giving his character a classic spy look. Hart takes a much more relaxed approach with a Joy Division shirt and plaid pajama pants.
A yellow Porsche also appears in the background.
Henry Cavill and Kevin Hart play rival spies
Netflix has confirmed that Cavill and Hart will play rival spies in the upcoming comedy.
The story puts the two unlikely characters in an unusual situation. They cross paths at a Lamaze class after their wives become friends. Their secret lives then collide, forcing the rival agents to work together.
The situation becomes even more complicated as the two men prepare for fatherhood. Netflix describes them as reluctant partners who must navigate both danger and their changing personal lives.
The film will blend spy action with comedy, giving both actors a different type of role.
Netflix adds Jason Isaacs and more
Netflix expanded the cast in August.
Jason Isaacs, Justine Lupe and Aja Naomi King joined Cavill and Hart. Netflix has not revealed the new actors’ specific roles yet.
McG will direct the movie. The filmmaker previously worked with Netflix on The Babysitter and Rim of the World. The screenplay comes from Jonathan Tropper, Adam and Aaron Nee, and Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux.
The project also has an impressive producing team. Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds and Hart are among the producers attached to the movie.
Cavill returns to familiar territory
Cavill has built a strong connection with spy and action movies over the years.
He played Napoleon Solo in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and August Walker in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. He also starred in Argylle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
His spy roles have often fueled speculation about a possible James Bond appearance. Cavill became a popular fan choice to replace Daniel Craig after Craig ended his run as 007.
However, Amazon MGM has moved in a different direction for the next Bond era. Cavill has also said he no longer expects to play the famous British spy.
Instead, the actor continues to build his action career through major projects.
New Netflix movie has no title yet
The Netflix project currently has no official title or release date.
That means fans still have several major details to learn. Netflix has not announced when the movie will arrive on the streaming service.
Production is already moving forward, however. Cavill now has another spy role on his schedule, this time with Hart providing the comedy opposite him.
The combination could give Netflix a fresh action-comedy pairing.
For now, the first-look images offer the clearest glimpse yet at Cavill and Hart as their rival spy characters. More casting news and production details could follow as filming continues.
