China launches Global AI Alliance as Beijing unveiled a new international artificial intelligence partnership aimed at strengthening global cooperation and shaping future AI governance. President Xi Jinping announced the initiative during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, where he urged countries to work together instead of allowing one nation to dominate AI development.
Although Xi did not mention the United States directly, his speech came as Washington and Beijing continue competing for leadership in advanced technology.

President Xi described artificial intelligence as a historic opportunity that should benefit every country, particularly developing nations.

He also promised that China would expand AI partnerships with countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America to improve digital innovation and technology access.
China Launches Global AI Alliance Through WAICO
The newly created World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO) officially began operations this week.
Shanghai will host the alliance’s headquarters.
The organization includes 29 founding members, including Pakistan, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, South Africa, and Senegal.
Chinese officials said WAICO will promote international cooperation, develop common AI standards, improve safety practices, and encourage discussions on global AI regulation.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres attended the launch, highlighting the growing importance of international AI cooperation.
