Kaylee Hottle, the young actress who won fans with her role as Jia in the Godzilla franchise, has died at the age of 18 following a car accident in Maryland.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened early Tuesday morning. A 1995 Honda Accord carrying three people left a two-lane highway before crashing into a culvert.
Police Investigate Fatal Crash
Investigators believe excessive speed contributed to the accident.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene around 2:52 a.m. They rushed Hottle to a nearby hospital, but doctors could not save her.
The 19-year-old driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another passenger refused medical treatment.
Police continue investigating the exact cause of the crash.
Rising Star of the Godzilla Franchise
Although she was only 18, Hottle had already built an impressive acting career.
She portrayed Jia, the deaf orphan who formed a unique bond with Kong, in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Her natural performance earned praise from critics and audiences. It also strengthened deaf representation in major Hollywood films.
In 2024, the Saturn Awards nominated her for Best Performance by a Younger Actor.

Kaylee’s father, Joshua Hottle, confirmed her death through an emotional video in American Sign Language on Facebook.
Soon afterward, fans, actors and members of the deaf community shared heartfelt tributes across social media.
School Mourns Her Passing
The Texas School for the Deaf, where Hottle studied, described her death as a devastating loss.
“Our hearts are with Kaylee’s family, friends, classmates and everyone who knew and loved her during this incredibly difficult time,” the school said.
School officials also asked the public to respect the family’s privacy while investigators continue examining the crash.
