Norris Commits His Future to McLaren
Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has committed his future to McLaren by signing a contract extension that will keep him with the team until at least 2030.
McLaren announced the new agreement on Saturday. The deal also includes an option for a further multi-year extension beyond 2030.
The announcement comes just days after Norris claimed victory at the Dutch Grand Prix. His back-to-back wins have revived his hopes of defending the world championship.
Norris currently sits fourth in the drivers’ standings. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli leads him by 83 points with 11 races remaining.
Norris Targets More F1 Success
The 26-year-old Briton joined McLaren’s junior programme at the age of 17. Two years later, he made his Formula 1 debut with the team.
Norris has since developed into one of McLaren’s leading drivers. Last season, he reached the biggest milestone of his career by winning his first F1 world championship.
His title also ended McLaren’s long wait for a drivers’ championship. The team’s previous champion was Lewis Hamilton, who won the title with McLaren in 2008.
Norris said McLaren feels like home and that he remains determined to achieve more with the team.
“When I started this journey nine years ago, I was clear about the goals I wanted to achieve,” Norris said in McLaren’s statement.
He added that the team had already achieved its goal of returning to the front and winning championships. However, Norris made it clear that he wants the success to continue.
McLaren Builds Around Norris
The long-term agreement gives McLaren greater stability as it continues its push for success in Formula 1.
Norris has spent his entire F1 career with McLaren. His experience with the team has grown alongside its return to the top of the sport.
The new contract signals McLaren’s confidence in Norris as a central part of its future plans.
The British driver will now focus on closing the gap in this year’s championship. With 11 races still remaining, he has time to make up ground on Antonelli.
Norris will also have the chance to build on his recent form after winning consecutive races.
His immediate target is another strong run of results. His bigger ambition remains clear: more victories, more championships and continued success with McLaren.
For Norris and McLaren, the long-term partnership is now firmly in place.
