Liam Potts: Two Men Re-Arrested After Soldier’s Death

The Liam Potts investigation has led to the re-arrest of two men on suspicion of manslaughter after police recovered the body of the 22-year-old Coldstream Guards soldier from a river in Northumberland.

Northumbria Police found Potts near Wylam Bridge on August 18. He had disappeared in the early hours of August 15.

Liam Potts Death Investigation

Police received reports of a disturbance at The Boathouse pub before Potts disappeared. Officers also received reports of a collision at Wylam Bridge involving a car and several pedestrians.

Investigators are now examining whether those events played a role in Potts entering the river. Police said he stood on the bridge when the collision occurred.

However, officers confirmed that the car did not hit Potts. He was not inside the vehicle either. Police believe he entered the water within minutes of the collision.

Two men, aged 22 and 23, have been re-arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. They remain in custody while detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the Liam Potts case.

Two People Suffer Serious Injuries

A man and a woman, both in their 20s, suffered serious injuries during the collision. Police said their injuries were not life-threatening.

The woman has since left hospital. Meanwhile, the man remains in hospital for further treatment.

Police continue to examine the events that happened before and after the collision. They have not ruled out further action as the investigation develops.

Family Pays Tribute to Liam Potts

Potts’ family described him as “the heart and soul of any room” in a tribute following his death.

They said they would miss his smile, his laughter and the small things that made him special. They also thanked everyone who had contacted the family or shared their own memories.

The family said the overwhelming support had brought them comfort during an extremely difficult time. They added that the response showed how loved Liam was.

Rescue Teams Help Find Soldier

Potts’ family also thanked the teams involved in the search for the soldier.

The North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team both assisted with the search.

The family also thanked Northumbria Police and the police diving team. Officers from the diving team recovered Potts’ body from the river.

The investigation into Liam Potts and the events surrounding his death remains ongoing.
