Mara Ruz Daz, a 70-year-old retiree, hopes the Pope will speak for poor Argentines. Recently, she visited the Parish of Saint Cajetan in Buenos Aires.
The church attracts large crowds who pray to the saint associated with work. There, Ruz Daz said she hoped the Pope would help people facing hardship.
I hope the Pope comes to help the poor like me,Ruz Daz said.
Santiago Olave, 60, also visited the sanctuary. Similarly, he expressed concern about the country’s difficult situation.
The country is going through a difficult time,he said. The Pope can open hearts and minds.
Together, their comments reflect concerns shared by many people across Argentina.
Argentine Church Warns About Poverty
The Argentine Catholic Church has also raised concerns about worsening living conditions.
In particular, church leaders say cuts to health, education and social programmes have hurt vulnerable communities.
At a recent Mass, Buenos Aires Archbishop Jorge Garca Cuerva spoke about the pressure on workers and poor families.
At the same time, a display at the parish showed Pope Leo alongside elderly people, a person using a wheelchair, a homeless man and a teacher.
The display represented groups that have faced the impact of government spending cuts.
Furthermore, Garca Cuerva warned against treating economic freedom as an absolute value. He said economic policies must protect human dignity and serve the common good.
Milei, however, has defended his approach. He says his government must stay focused on economic reform rather than return to populist policies.
Pope Leo’s Argentina Tour Plans
The Vatican says Pope Leo will visit Argentina, Uruguay and Peru from November 8 to 11.
So far, officials have not released the full programme.
In Argentina, Leo plans to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Luj¡n. The site honors the country’s patron saint.
Additionally, he will travel to Crdoba province.
The trip carries special meaning for Argentine Catholics. Notably, Pope Francis never returned to his homeland after becoming Pope in 2013.
John Paul II made the last papal visit to Argentina in April 1987.
