AI Business Boom Lifts US Futures as Nvidia Surges

AI business boom lifts US futures as Nvidia shares and technology stocks rise

The AI business boom is pushing US stock futures higher as strong demand for artificial intelligence technology boosts Nvidia and other companies linked to the fast-growing sector.

S&P 500 futures rose 0.4%, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were almost unchanged. Nasdaq futures gained 1%, pointing to a stronger opening for technology stocks.

Nvidia led the gains before the opening bell. Its shares climbed more than 7% after the chipmaker reported results that easily exceeded Wall Street expectations.

Nvidia Leads AI Business Boom

Nvidia has become one of the biggest beneficiaries of the global race to develop artificial intelligence. Companies are spending heavily on powerful computer chips and data-center infrastructure needed to run increasingly advanced AI systems.

The latest Nvidia results reinforced expectations that this spending could continue. Strong chip demand helped the company deliver better-than-expected revenue and earnings.

Nvidia’s performance also lifted several other AI-related companies.

Shares of Marvell Technology, SanDisk, Micron Technology and Super Micro Computer moved higher before the market opened. Investors viewed Nvidia’s results as another sign that demand for AI infrastructure remains strong.

Strong earnings from CrowdStrike and Salesforce also supported technology stocks and helped push Nasdaq futures higher.

Dollar Stores Also See Strong Demand

The market rally was not limited to technology companies.

Dollar General and Dollar Tree both reported stronger-than-expected second-quarter results on Thursday. The two retailers also raised their profit forecasts for the full year.

Persistent inflation has encouraged many American consumers to look for cheaper shopping options. Even higher-income households have increasingly turned to retailers such as Walmart and dollar stores to control spending.

However, consumer demand remains uneven.

Walmart has performed relatively well despite economic pressures, but its growth has started to slow as consumers become more concerned about the US economy.

US Jobs Data in Focus

Investors are also watching the US labor market closely.

The government is due to release its weekly unemployment claims report. Recent employment data showed unexpected weakness in the job market, adding to concerns about the broader economy.

The labor market is particularly important for the Federal Reserve as officials consider the direction of interest rates.

Investors will be looking for signs that could influence the Fed’s next policy decision. A weaker labor market could increase pressure for lower interest rates, while persistent inflation could make policymakers more cautious.

European Markets Mixed

European markets showed a mixed performance.

Britain’s FTSE 100 fell 0.5% to 10,823.27. France’s CAC 40 declined 1.1% to 8,369.92, while Germany’s DAX edged 0.2% higher to 26,348.14.

Asian markets were also mixed as investors assessed global economic conditions and the outlook for technology companies.

Oil Prices Continue to Rise

Oil prices moved higher as markets continued to monitor developments surrounding the Iran conflict and its impact on global energy supplies.

Brent crude, the international benchmark, gained 0.5% to $87.36 a barrel. US benchmark crude rose 0.2% to $82.38.

Oil prices were trading near $72 a barrel in late February before the war in Iran began, highlighting the significant impact of the conflict on energy markets.

Dollar Strengthens Against Yen

Currency markets also showed modest moves.

The US dollar rose to 159.48 Japanese yen from 159.31 yen. The euro slipped to $1.1644 from $1.1651.

For investors, the combination of strong AI demand, shifting consumer behavior, labor-market uncertainty and higher energy prices will remain important factors in determining the direction of US markets.

For now, the AI business boom is providing a major boost to technology stocks, with Nvidia at the center of the latest rally.
