The Godzilla Minus Zero trailer has sparked a disturbing theory about how humanity might fight the returning monster.
The new footage confirms that Godzilla remains a major threat in the sequel. It also hints at another powerful force that could change the direction of the story. Near the end, viewers hear a distinctive roar that has fueled widespread speculation about King Ghidorah.
However, the trailer does not show Ghidorah directly. TOHO has also not officially confirmed the monster’s identity in its promotional material. That leaves plenty of room for theories about what the filmmakers have planned.
Could humans create King Ghidorah?
One of the most intriguing theories suggests that the humans themselves could create Ghidorah.
The idea comes from several details in the trailer. Kenji Noda, a returning character from Godzilla Minus One, is heard ordering the start of “Project Narukami.”
The name has an interesting connection to Japanese mythology. Narukami is associated with Raijin, the god of thunder and lightning. That connection has led fans to link the project with a creature known for devastating electrical attacks.
Of course, Project Narukami could have a completely different purpose. The project might involve a weapon designed to destroy Godzilla or respond to another threat.
For now, the movie gives viewers no definitive answer.
The “moral boundary” clue
Another line from the trailer has made the theory even more interesting.
A character warns that humanity should not cross “another moral boundary.” The line appears shortly before the mysterious roar that many fans associate with Ghidorah.
That sequence has led to speculation that humans may be considering an extreme solution to the Godzilla problem.
Creating another monster to defeat Godzilla would fit that idea. It would also create a darker twist on the classic human-versus-monster conflict.
Still, the connection remains speculation. The trailer does not explicitly say that humans created the second creature.
A possible reversal of Godzilla history
The theory also connects with the franchise’s earlier history.
In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, the story gave the famous three-headed monster a very different origin from some earlier versions. The franchise has repeatedly changed the backgrounds and roles of its monsters over the years.
Therefore, Godzilla Minus Zero could theoretically offer another new interpretation.
That possibility fits director Takashi Yamazaki’s approach to the series. His 2023 film Godzilla Minus One placed strong emphasis on postwar Japan and the human cost of disaster. The sequel continues that story two years later, as Japan struggles to recover.
What the trailer actually confirms
The official material confirms that Godzilla Minus Zero takes place in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One. Japan has begun rebuilding, but a new threat destroys the fragile sense of peace.
Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe return as Koichi and Noriko Shikishima. Several other cast members from the first film also return.
The new movie will premiere in Japan on November 3 before its North American theatrical release on November 6. It also marks the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX.
For now, the biggest mystery remains the identity and origin of the second threat.
If the trailer’s clues do point to King Ghidorah, the bigger question may be even more unsettling: did humanity create the monster it needs to defeat Godzilla?
The answer will have to wait for the film.
