Dubai Police Rescue Workers Trapped in Meat Grinders

Dubai Police rescue workers use specialised rescue equipment to free a restaurant worker whose hand became trapped inside an industrial meat grinder in Dubai.

Dubai Police rescue workers have successfully freed several employees whose hands became trapped inside commercial meat grinders at restaurants and shopping centres across the emirate.

Rescue teams used specialised equipment and engineering techniques to release the victims while limiting further injuries.

Officials said the incidents highlight the importance of stronger workplace safety measures, proper employee training and regular maintenance of industrial machinery.

Dubai Police Use Specialist Equipment

According to Dubai Police, rescue teams have responded to multiple emergencies involving industrial meat grinders in commercial kitchens.

Colonel Khalid Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Director of the Search and Rescue Department, said rescuers use precision cutting tools and advanced engineering techniques to safely release trapped limbs.

Rather than immediately cutting through machinery, teams carefully dismantle or reverse the equipment whenever possible. This approach can reduce the risk of permanent injuries.

Restaurant Worker Saved From Amputation

One of the most challenging operations involved a restaurant employee whose hand became trapped deep inside a meat grinder.

Doctors initially feared that amputation might be necessary to prevent potentially life-threatening complications.

However, Dubai Police rescue specialists successfully reversed the machine’s mechanism and freed the worker’s hand. The procedure helped limit the injuries to part of his fingers.

Medical staff later praised the rescue team’s rapid response and technical expertise.

Similar Machinery Rescues

Dubai Police have handled several other emergencies involving industrial machinery in restaurants and shopping centres.

Rescue teams have also responded to incidents involving children’s hands becoming trapped in escalators and elevators.

Officials said each operation requires close coordination between emergency responders and medical personnel to protect victims and prevent additional injuries.

Police Urge Stronger Workplace Safety

Dubai Police urged employers to strengthen safety procedures and ensure that:

  • Employees receive proper machine-safety training.
  • Industrial equipment has functioning safety guards.
  • Workers follow approved operating procedures.
  • Machinery is regularly inspected and properly maintained.

Parents were also advised to supervise children carefully around moving machinery in public places.

Courts Award Compensation in Workplace Injury Cases

The latest rescues come as Dubai courts continue to hear cases involving workplace injuries linked to inadequate safety measures.

In one reported case, a restaurant employee who lost a hand in a meat-grinder accident received Dh500,000 in compensation after the court found shortcomings in safety training and supervision.

In another case, a worker who lost two fingers in a steel-bending machine accident received Dh70,000 in damages.

Authorities say such cases reinforce the importance of maintaining safe working environments and ensuring employees understand the risks associated with industrial equipment.
