An Israeli airstrike killed a man and his 8-year-old daughter in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to health officials. The attack also wounded six other people, adding to the civilian casualties reported in the territory.
Mohamed Abu Selmia, the head of Al Shifa Hospital, said the strike hit a vehicle in western Gaza City. The attack killed Youssef Akila and his daughter, Wafaa, according to the hospital official.
An Israeli military spokesperson said the forces had targeted a Hamas militant. The spokesperson added that the military was still assessing the results of the operation. No further details about the reported target were immediately provided.
More Deaths Reported in Gaza City
Later on Sunday, two separate Israeli strikes killed two more people, including a child, according to medics. The attacks occurred in and around Gaza City.
Medics said another Israeli strike killed at least one man near a telecommunications company east of Gaza City. Meanwhile, an Israeli tank reportedly fired at a school sheltering displaced families, killing a 3-year-old boy.
As a result, the reported death toll from Israeli attacks in Gaza on Sunday reached at least four, according to local medical officials.
The incidents come despite a ceasefire that was backed by the United States in October 2025. Although the agreement halted much of the major fighting, Israeli military strikes have continued in the territory.
Ceasefire Remains Under Pressure
Hamas has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire. The group has also claimed that Israeli military actions are making it harder to implement US President Donald Trump’s broader plan for ending the Gaza conflict.
That plan includes proposed Israeli withdrawals from parts of Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas. However, major questions remain over how those measures would be implemented.
According to Gaza health officials, more than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect last October. Most of those killed were civilians, according to the health authorities.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military says four Israeli soldiers have been killed during the same period. Hamas does not normally provide separate figures for fighters killed in the conflict.
The latest deaths underline the continuing risks faced by civilians in Gaza. For now, the ceasefire remains in place, but the continued strikes and competing accusations have kept hopes for a lasting end to the conflict uncertain.
