Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has submitted a written response to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), denying knowledge of the allegations against him.
Rizwan also questioned whether the agency has the authority to investigate the matter.
In his two-page response, the Pakistan cricketer said authorities had not clearly explained which online gambling operation he allegedly had links to.
He also said he had not been told what role he was accused of playing.
Mohammad Rizwan NCCIA Response Seeks Details
Rizwan said he had attempted to obtain details about the allegations.
However, according to his response, he had not received sufficient information to understand the claims against him.
The cricketer therefore asked the NCCIA to disclose the specific allegations and evidence behind the inquiry.
He argued that the authorities should provide enough information for him to properly respond to the accusations.
Rizwan Questions NCCIA Jurisdiction
A major part of Rizwan’s response concerns the NCCIA’s jurisdiction.
He argued that the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has the appropriate authority to investigate allegations involving international cricketers.
Rizwan questioned why the matter had not been referred to the ICC’s anti-corruption body if investigators suspected any wrongdoing.
He also challenged the NCCIA’s decision to continue its inquiry.
However, these points represent Rizwan’s legal position and do not establish that the NCCIA lacks jurisdiction.
Lahore High Court Rejects Rizwan Petition
The response came after the Lahore High Court dismissed a petition filed by Rizwan against the NCCIA proceedings.
Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard arguments from Rizwan’s lawyer, Umair Qazi.
Qazi argued that the notices issued to Rizwan were unjustified and fell outside the agency’s authority.
The court, however, directed Rizwan to respond to the show-cause notice and appear before the NCCIA.
The court also noted that Rizwan’s earlier response had been rejected before fresh notices were issued.
Rizwan and Imam Appear Before NCCIA
Rizwan and fellow Pakistan cricketer Imam-ul-Haq appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore on September 10.
The appearance formed part of an investigation into alleged dressing-room leaks during Pakistan’s tour of England.
Both players requested additional time to submit their written responses.
Investigators are also examining data from the players’ mobile phones.
The Pakistan Cricket Board handed over the devices as authorities examine contacts and activity during the England tour alongside the leak allegations.
Probe Includes Online Activity Claims
The NCCIA inquiry has attracted attention because of allegations involving online activity.
Rizwan has specifically said that he does not know which gambling operation investigators believe he was connected to.
He has also questioned the basis for linking him to any such activity.
At this stage, the allegations remain under investigation, and Rizwan has denied wrongdoing.
Sources have also indicated that at least one additional Pakistan player has received a notice.
Inquiry Follows PCB Disciplinary Review
The NCCIA investigation follows an internal disciplinary review by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The PCB launched the review over issues described as matters of “discipline and conduct” following Pakistan’s heavy Test defeats against England.
The results of that tour created significant pressure around the Pakistan team.
Seven players were recalled home early during the tour as the PCB examined issues surrounding the team’s conduct and internal matters.
What Happens Next?
Rizwan’s written response now puts his position formally on record.
He wants the NCCIA to explain the allegations and provide details about the evidence behind the inquiry.
He has also argued that any suspected corruption involving an international cricketer should go through the ICC’s anti-corruption system.
Meanwhile, the NCCIA has continued its proceedings following the Lahore High Court’s direction.
The investigation will determine whether authorities find evidence supporting the allegations.
