Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged Pakistanis to stand united against terrorism. He said national unity remains essential as the country confronts growing security threats that Pakistan alleges receive support from India.
Speaking at the Balochistan National Workshop in Islamabad, the prime minister said Pakistan’s enemies were attempting to destabilise the country. However, he expressed confidence that unity and determination would help Pakistan overcome these challenges.
PM Accuses India of Supporting Terrorism
Addressing workshop participants, Shehbaz Sharif claimed that India’s involvement in supporting terrorism inside Pakistan had become increasingly evident.
He described terrorism as one of Pakistan’s most serious security challenges. Therefore, he called on government institutions, security agencies and citizens to work together against militant groups.
The prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s heavy sacrifices during its long fight against terrorism. He said the country must ensure those sacrifices do not go in vain.
Balochistan’s Role in Pakistan’s Development
Shehbaz Sharif praised the people and leadership of Balochistan for their commitment to Pakistan despite facing significant challenges.
He said the province had consistently placed national interests above political and personal considerations. He also highlighted Balochistan’s contribution to Pakistan’s formation and development.
The prime minister noted that Punjab had supported Balochistan through the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. He stressed that Pakistan’s future depends on balanced development across all four provinces.
Infrastructure Projects to Continue
The prime minister said work on the Karachi-Chaman Dual Carriageway is progressing.
He described the project as part of the government’s wider effort to improve transportation and connectivity in Balochistan.
According to Shehbaz Sharif, better infrastructure can strengthen trade, create employment and support long-term economic development across the province.
Concerns Over Militants Operating From Afghanistan
Shehbaz Sharif also criticised the Afghan Taliban government over militant activity originating from Afghan territory.
He claimed terrorist groups continue launching attacks against Pakistani civilians and security personnel. He urged Kabul to take stronger action against groups operating from its territory.
The prime minister added that terrorism had largely come under control by 2018. However, he said militant violence later returned through what he described as an organised conspiracy.
Pakistan’s Diplomatic Efforts Recognised
Shehbaz Sharif also praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran.
He said Pakistan’s focus on dialogue and regional peace had strengthened the country’s international position.
The prime minister stressed that Pakistan wants to contribute to regional stability while protecting its own national interests.
Army Reaffirms Resolve Against Militancy
Shehbaz Sharif’s comments came shortly after Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed the military’s commitment to fighting terrorism and militant networks in Balochistan.
During his address at the National Workshop Balochistan, the army chief said security forces would continue operations with support from the Pakistani people.
He vowed to pursue terrorist groups and their facilitators until the threat is eliminated.
As security challenges continue, Pakistan’s leadership says lasting peace in Balochistan requires national unity, stronger security measures and continued development.
