Sandringham Private Game Reserve sits near the Timbavati and Thornybush game reserves. The property now combines luxury accommodation with wildlife conservation and community-focused projects.
The reserve covers nearly 5,000 hectares and features two luxury safari camps, N’weti and Shisaka. Each camp has six suites.

The new South African safari retreat offers guests a close view of the surrounding wildlife and landscape.
Every tented suite features a private infinity pool. Guests can relax while looking across the bush and toward the Timbavati River.
The suites also include indoor-outdoor bathrooms and relaxation areas influenced by Tsonga heritage. Their design aims to create a comfortable setting while keeping guests connected to the surrounding wilderness.Shisaka also features two private villas. Guests looking for an exclusive group experience can book Sandringham House, a four-bedroom property designed for families and larger groups.
Conservation at the South African Safari Retreat
Sabi Sabi Collection developed the new retreat with conservation at its centre. The five-year project focused on restoring natural habitats and supporting the return of wildlife to the former hunting reserve. The company has also partnered with the Tracker Training Academy. The initiative provides young people from nearby communities with opportunities to develop careers as professional wildlife trackers.
Jacques Smit, marketing director at Sabi Sabi Collection, said the project was driven by the opportunity to protect the landscape while creating benefits for wildlife, local communities and future travellers.
He described watching the land recover and wildlife return as one of the most rewarding parts of the project.
What Guests Can Expect
The central lodge includes a spa, gym and education centre for younger visitors. Guests can also enjoy boma dining and a wine tower featuring wines from South African estates.
The reserve can be reached by air through its private airstrip, making access easier for visitors travelling into the Greater Kruger region.
Safari activities form a major part of the experience. Game drives and walking safaris are included with stays, giving visitors different ways to explore the reserve and observe wildlife.
A New Destination for Wildlife and Birdwatching
Four rivers run through Sandringham Private Game Reserve, creating an attractive environment for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
The combination of restored habitats, wildlife experiences and high-end accommodation gives the property a different identity from its past as a hunting reserve.
The reopening reflects a broader move toward conservation-focused tourism, where luxury travel and wildlife protection can operate alongside each other.
