The body of seasoned Pakistani mountaineer Syed Ali Shah Mian has been recovered from a height of around 5,200 meters on Falak Sar, the highest peak in Swat’s Kalam Valley.
The recovery came after a difficult 54-day rescue operation in one of the region’s most challenging mountain environments.
Syed Ali Shah Mian died on July 11 after successfully reaching the summit of Falak Sar. He suffered a mountaineering accident while descending the peak.
Body recovered after prolonged search
Rescue teams spent several days searching the rugged terrain for the missing mountaineer.
The search was complicated by difficult conditions and poor weather in the mountainous area. Despite those challenges, rescuers eventually located his body at an altitude of approximately 5,200 meters.
The recovery team then carried the body to the base camp.
However, severe weather has made it difficult to move the body further from the mountain. The rescue crew is currently transporting it on foot while attempting to reach Kalam.
The difficult terrain and continuing weather problems have slowed the operation.
Experienced mountaineer remembered
Syed Ali Shah Mian was an experienced mountaineer with a strong record of climbing peaks in the region.
He had successfully reached the summit of Falak Sar and had climbed several other mountains on multiple occasions.
During his expeditions, he proudly carried and raised the Pakistani flag at the summits.
His death has brought renewed attention to the risks faced by climbers operating in some of Pakistan’s most demanding mountain regions.
Falak Sar, located in the Kalam Valley of Swat, presents significant challenges because of its high altitude and rugged terrain.
Rescue operation faces final challenge
Although rescuers have successfully recovered Syed Ali Shah Mian’s body, the operation is not yet complete.
The team still has to transport the body from the mountain to Kalam. Severe weather continues to create additional difficulties.
Rescuers are carrying out the final stage of the journey on foot because conditions have made other forms of transportation difficult.
The recovery after 54 days marks an important step for the family and those who worked to locate the experienced climber.
The mountaineering community will remember Syed Ali Shah Mian for his experience, determination and repeated achievements on Pakistan’s peaks.
