A new European Sleeper night train will connect Brussels and Amsterdam with Copenhagen and Malmö from April 2028, creating a direct overnight rail link between the Benelux, Denmark and southern Sweden.
The service will mark European Sleeper’s first route into Scandinavia. The company announced the project through a partnership with German railway operator RDC, which has extensive experience running night trains between Germany and Scandinavia.
New Night Train Will Link Western and Northern Europe
The planned Brussels-Malmö route will expand European Sleeper’s network further into Northern Europe. Passengers will be able to travel overnight between major cities without relying on daytime connections or flights.
The service will also make other European destinations easier to reach. Travellers from Copenhagen and Malmö will be able to continue toward cities such as London, Paris, Stockholm and Oslo with just one additional change.
European Sleeper co-founder Chris Engelsman described Scandinavia as a natural expansion for the company’s growing network. He said the partnership with RDC would help create a direct and comfortable overnight connection between the Benelux region, Denmark and Sweden.
RDC chief executive Markus Hunkel said his company would bring its experience operating night trains between Germany and Scandinavia to the new service.
Brussels and Malmö Trains Planned for 2028
Initial plans call for trains to leave Brussels and Malmö at around 7pm local time. Passengers would then arrive at the opposite end of the route at approximately 10am the following morning.
The overnight journey will allow passengers to sleep while travelling between Western and Northern Europe. The service is expected to provide several accommodation choices.
European Sleeper and RDC plan to offer seats, couchettes and sleeper compartments. The companies are also considering deluxe sleeper accommodation.
Those premium options could include double beds and private en-suite bathrooms, although the final arrangements have yet to be confirmed.
European Sleeper Expands Its Network
The Scandinavian service forms part of European Sleeper’s wider expansion across Europe.
The company is scheduled to launch its first Brussels-Milan night train on September 9, 2026. That route will connect the Benelux with Switzerland and northern Italy.
European Sleeper is also preparing for a Brussels-Barcelona connection, which is planned for 2028.
The new Scandinavian route would further strengthen the company’s position in Europe’s growing night-train market. By linking major cities across several countries overnight, European Sleeper aims to give travellers an alternative to short-haul flights.
For passengers looking for a more convenient way to reach Denmark and southern Sweden, the European Sleeper Scandinavia service could provide a new option from spring 2028.
